Why We Built This
Southern Cross Journeys exists because Black families deserve more than DIY college tours and Wikipedia articles about their history.
A Journey That Started With a Question
I started Southern Cross Journeys because I kept seeing the same pattern: families driving themselves from campus to campus, exhausted and overwhelmed, trying to figure out which college was right for their student. And I kept thinking — there has to be a better way.
The college process has become an arms race. Wealthy families spend tens of thousands of dollars on private counselors. They have connections and consultants and coaches. Everyone else is left to figure it out on their own. That's not a level playing field. And Black families — navigating a post-DEI landscape where institutional support has evaporated—deserve better.
Southern Cross Journeys is my answer to that question:
What if we built something that gave every Black family access to the resources, relationships, and experiences that make the difference?
What if we could show students not just campuses, but communities? Not just buildings, but possibilities?
What if we could reconnect adults to the history that shaped us — not through a screen, but standing in the places where it happened?
Instead of navigating college and history alone, Southern Cross Journeys offers guided experiences—whether that means choosing between HBCUs and PWIs or standing in the places where our story began.
That's what we're building. A journey company for families who understand that the path to the future runs through understanding where we've been.

Our Mission
Southern Cross Journeys connects Black families to the institutions, experiences, and history that shape their futures. We believe that seeing is believing—and that every student deserves to see themselves reflected in the places where they'll grow.

What We Believe
-
Excellence is the Standard
We don't do budget tours. Every detail—from the bus to the hotels to the campus access—reflects our belief that our families deserve first-class experiences.
-
Access Creates Possibility
When students see HBCUs during homecoming, when they meet admissions counselors face-to-face, when they walk the same quads as the leaders who came before them—something shifts. We create that access.
-
History Informs the Future
You can't know where you're going if you don't know where you've been. Our heritage tours aren't nostalgia—they're context for building what comes next.
-
Community Over Competition
The families on our tours become a network. The students become peers. We're not just running trips—we're building relationships that last beyond the journey.
